Structural investigation and remediation of the timber roof structure of St. Stephan Church, Munich-Sendling

In-depth review of the wooden roof construction of the central building from 1972. The cross sections and connections were checked for structural changes, warping, water spots, moisture penetration, corrosion of metal parts, discoloration, defective joints, cracks, fungi and the impacts of damage from a safety perspective were evaluated. As a result of shrinkage, the glued laminated timber cross-sections were torn at rigid nodes and frame corners.

Narrower cracks were grouted and the larger cracks through wood-based panels were strengthened (Screw-glueing). The cross-sections damaged due to shear stress were additionally secured with fully threaded locking screws.
